Barbecue. Fresh seafood. Pasta that tastes like it’s straight from an Italian kitchen. Cookies, cakes and pies galore. No matter your favorite dish, you’re sure to find it in Missouri. Our restaurants and cafés serve delicious food, along with a generous helping of hospitality.

While spending time in the bustling college town of Columbia, be sure to enjoy a meal at local favorite, Addison’s American Grill. Yelp.com user Molly F  praises Addison’s: “The food is innovative and delicious, while still being affordable.” Treat yourself to specialty dishes such as Nachos Bianco (piled high on crunchy pasta chips rather than traditional tortilla chips) and Diablo Shrimp Pasta.

In Lake Ozark, pair a memorable meal with an unforgettable lake view from the bluff-top. The Blue Heron Restaurant boasts amazing panoramas of the Lake of the Ozarks. Cocktails and wine are served on the expansive patio, around a shimmering swimming pool (sorry, no swimming allowed). The Blue Heron’s signature dish is the delectable batter-fried lobster tail; sautéed Dover sole is a house specialty. The menu offers a wide variety of beef, lamb, poultry and pork dishes, plus an extensive multi-award-winning wine list.

VisitMO includes plenty of great advice from our very own MOTravelGuy – he’s particularly savvy about food. Start the day with a full breakfast buffet at Black Bear Lodge Restaurant, one of several dining choices at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. The friendly staff serves plates full of delicious food, including omelets, fresh fruit, pastries and house-made biscuits with a side of sausage. As a fan of nontraditional breakfast foods, MOTravelGuy recommends kicking off your morning with a hearty slice of Gooey Butter Cheesecake at The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery in Kimmswick. In an
Itinerary posted on VisitMO.com, MOTravelGuy suggests several more of his favorite unique eateries, including stops in the “Live Music Show Capital of the World” – that would be Branson – and in America’s Hometown – that would be Hannibal; plus Maplewood (St. Louis) and Kansas City. As MOTravelGuy is known to say: “Yeah, just try to resist.” For more Missouri food tips, follow @MOTravelGuy on Twitter.

When Missouri legislators have an important meeting (or, like the rest of us, just crave some delicious food), they head to Madison’s Café. This Jefferson City favorite serves northern Italian and American cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. TripAdvisor.com user HappySmile165 notes diners always find “top-notch service and fabulous food at Madison's – he particularly recommends the Mussels Milano. On gorgeous day, enjoy your meal and a cocktail alfresco.

Missouri takes barbecue very seriously, and we have plenty of fun serving delicious BBQ dishes to friends, family and visitors. The article “Summer Means Barbecue Season in Missouri,” written by Tourism staffer SeeMOMan, highlights some great barbecue spots around the state, including Lutz’s Famous BBQ-Jefferson City and Lutz’s in Columbia. Owner Burl Lutz and his crew make such good BBQ that they took Grand Champion honors on the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour. The slow-smoked meats are pulled or sliced to order. Be sure to get a serving of Lutz’s house-made, spiral-cut potato chips, with your choice of a dozen seasonings. (Click Here to watch a minute-and-a-half video of the Lutz operation in action.) Read the Summer BBQ article mentioned above for tips from Joe Lutz (Burl's brother) and information about other top-notch and unique barbecue spots in Kansas City, Ironton, El Dorado Springs, St. Louis, and Chillicothe. How about some of the best? Zagat Survey® – the world’s leading survey-based restaurant reviewer – named Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue (three Kansas City locations) the No. 1 Barbecue House in the Country. Along with their meats, their BBQ sauces and rubs are top sellers online.

In the historic town of Arrow Rock, don’t miss the opportunity to try
Catalpa, Rural Missouri Magazine’s pick for the Best Restaurant in the State. Catalpa serves inventive, mouthwatering dishes in an elegant, intimate, yet laid-back environment. Make sure to save room for dessert – the house-made ice cream alone is worth the trip. With only eight tables in the dining room, and one Chef’s Table in the kitchen, reservations (required) should be made well in advance at this fine-dining establishment. Also, Catalpa offers cooking classes for six to eight people, perfect for friends and couples traveling together.

Sink your teeth into amazing steaks and delicacies from the sea at Kelly English Steakhouse in Maryland Heights. Kelly English, named one of the “best new chefs in the nation by Food and Wine Magazine in 2009, demonstrates his love of French-Creole cuisine at this elegant steakhouse
inside the Hollywood Casino. Enjoy innovative dishes such as crayfish-beignets with saffron aioli, and “surf and turf” (a New York strip stuffed with fried oysters and blue cheese).

In Springfield, celebrate the bright, fresh flavors of Mexico at Maria’s Mexican Restaurant. Favorite dishes at this downtown spot include carne asada, seafood enchiladas, fried tacos, and fajitas. Quench your thirst with a cold Mexican beer; if you like a margarita, they have more than 120 tequilas from which to choose.

Also in downtown Springfield, treat your sweet tooth and satisfy a savory craving at Aviary Café and Creperie. This adorable spot serves a variety of scrumptious crepes, including a fresh strawberry crepe with crème fraiche and mascarpone. Their gluten-free crepes are equally delicious.
