This educational program is one of the few chances to visit the Faust Historic Village for free without an appointment.

Faust Historic Village is a collections of building moved to Faust Park in Chesterfield from around the Chesterfield and St. Louis area to save from demolition. The house were build between 1840 and 1890 and are opened to the public and will be staffed by trained docents that will tell the history of the house. Many weekends a blacksmith is working in the blacksmith shop.  

The American Royal serves up a hot night of cold beer and wine, patterned after The Great American Beer Festival, with an added feature of wine from Missouri and other areas. More than 100 varieties of beer and wine will be available. The event is held inside Hale Arena on the American Royal grounds. Admission includes a commemorative glass and unlimited sampling at all wine and beer booths.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the event. Attendees must be 21 or older. Tickets will be available for purchase on 25 May.

During the Civil War, saltpeter mined from Missouri caves was used to make gunpowder and fireworks. This program at Onondaga Cave State Park focuses on saltpeter mining and the chemistry behind fireworks. Learn what makes them red and blue. After the program, take a short walk to the gravel bar and watch a firework display. (Note: The firework display is put on by the private resort across the river.)

This free family event focuses on the awesome abilities of bats. See live bats that are being rehabilitated. A short audio/visual program will be followed by playing a bat game, hiking a half-mile boardwalk trail and watching endangered gray bats fly out of Devil’s Icebox Cave. Free tours of Connor’s Cave will follow. Reservations are required and may be made a month in advance. This event is recommended for ages seven and older.

The year is 1812. The soldiers and residents of this remote outpost on the American Frontier are commemorating the anniversary of their independence against the rumors of another impending war with Great Britain. Toasts are made and speeches are given You won't want to miss the firing of the cannons, muskets and military drills. Be a witness to history and reflect on how our contemporary celebrations contrast with those of our ancestors.
