An 11-mile paved trail along the Mississippi River, between the Gateway Arch and the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. Plazas, parking, signage, artwork and drinking fountains are scattered along the route. This area is located in a remote area of the Ozarks. It provides hikers and backpackers access to the solitude and wildness of the state’s largest undeveloped area. The 61,000-acre unit is located within Pioneer Forest, the state’s largest privately owned forest. The Department of Natural Resources provides access to this area with 27 miles of trail. The area includes nearly 15 miles of frontage along the Current River and contains two designated natural areas with impressive old-growth trees.
