Within the walls of this museum, the history of Missouri unfolds. The building holds treasures of historical significance, beginning with the era of the Louisiana Territory.
Spacious rooms–some with specific themes, such as the Civil War–are appointed with antique chandeliers, rosewood and mahogany chests and settees, French mirrors and fine paintings.
The Civil War Room has uniforms, gear, weapons, flags, and objects relating to medicine, entertainment, and soldiers rations. A diorama depicts landmarks and fortifications in Jefferson City in 1864. Murals illustrate war-time events. Photographs and informational panels enhance the displays.
Located across the street from the Governor's Mansion.
