Carthage, Missouri, will be the site of a festive Christmas Homes Tour on Saturday December 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. featuring homes never before opened to the public.

The event, a fund-raiser for Carthage Historic Preservation, Inc., will feature a cross-section of historic homes in a variety of styles. Founded in the 1840s, burned to the ground during the Civil War Battle of Carthage, and rebuilt during the lead and zinc mining boom of the 1880s and 1890s, Carthage is also the home of the most photographed courthouse in Missouri and three historic districts as well as over 600 individual landmarks listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This fascinating look at beautifully restored and decorated homes will include an elegant opportunity for tea at the historic 1895 Phelps House. Reservations are required for tea with seating options ranging from noon-5 p.m. Advance tickets for the tour ($20) and tea ($20) may be purchased on the web site www.phelpshouse.org through December 1 or at local stores October 1-December 1. Tickets purchased after December 1 will be $25.
