The Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 when St. Joseph was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall St. is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row."
You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer.
Our comfortable sleeping rooms are beautifully appointed with art and antiques and luxurious linens. We offer luxury suites (Romeo and Juliet, the Verona, and Twelfth Night) with wide-screen HDTVs and whirlpool tubs, and we offer a made-from-scratch breakfast.
If you’re simply interested in visiting the home, tours are available, by appointment, for $7.
This 1885 mansion includes four guestrooms, each with its own private bathroom.
There is a grand parlor, a formal dining room, a music room, and a library. We have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom on the main floor.
