Hay's Ten Mile Store is one of the most authentic 'ol time country general stores in the nation. The store was built in 1904. Since then, the structure has changed little. All of the original shelving, counters, showcases, and advertising pieces are intact.
Tour the store, with its wide array of antiques and farm supplies, which gives it that authentic atmosphere. Located six miles east of Macon; four miles north on Route K. Open Saturdays only, year-round.
Kemp's Restaurant is located directly off of Route 36. This large building took the place of four old store buildings in the downtown area. Walk through the oak doors into the spacious, inviting atmosphere. The large dining room is flanked by a stone fireplace and is sun-lit by our six skylights. Our raised stage area is ideal for performances or entertainment and is also a favorite place for children to sit.
The entire building is wheelchair accessible. Venture past the fireplace and you will find a lounge where visitors can sit and have a drink. The lounge is also a popular spot for many parties and small business meetings. Larger business meetings and special events are held in the 140-seat capacity banquet room. Wi-Fi, sound system, and wireless microphones are available. For our smoking patrons, we have a covered patio at the back of the restaurant.
There are a variety of entrees each evening on our dinner menu. If you are in our area during lunchtime, join us for our old-fashioned lunchtime specials which include our popular pan-fried chicken served every Thursday and Sunday. The La Plata Golf Course is among the most challenging 18-hole courses located in northeast Missouri. The course, which plays nearly 6,200 yards from the blue (championship) tees, features a newly remodeled clubhouse.
This park features water recreation on the 2,430-acre Long Branch Lake, which has an excellent reputation for bass fishing. A swimming beach, trails, camping, an accessible fishing dock, a store, boat slips, and picnic sites and shelters are features. The park is located two miles west of Macon off Route 36.
The park offers basic and electric campsites and a special-use camping area. Services include a dump station, showers and water. There are several walk-in campsites available.
