The site features the Civil War battlefield and the Anderson House, which was used as a field hospital during the September 1861 battle. Highlights include a visitor center with exhibits, an interpretive, self-guided trail on the battlefield and guided tours.

Big River Ranch provides 2,100 acres of land to enjoy on horseback. We offer 25 miles of cut trails; five of which are along the Missouri River. We have an event center, camping, an outdoor lighted arena, and horse boarding stables. We welcome RVs.

Our tasting room is an old barn built in 1930s, sitting atop the Missouri River bluffs overlooking our farm. The winery between two of our vineyards, letting you sit close to the vines. We have indoor and outdoor seating.

The building has a casual feel with the original rough-cut lumber from floor to ceiling. We have tried to make a space where you can feel comfortable in shorts or your favorite formal dress.

Visit the most haunted city in Missouri. Ghost tours scheduled in Lexington feature stories from the Wentworth Military Academy, Battle of Lexington and the Anderson House, Saluda Steamboat Explosion and the notorious gambling and brothel area known as Block 42. Tours are $19.50 per person; the trolley departs from Riley's Pub at 8 p.m. Due to the sensitive nature of the tours, only those ages 12 and older may participate. Reservations are required.

The Hall of Waters was built in 1936 and 1937 to open as the distribution point for 10 of Excelsior Springs distinct healing mineral waters. The building is available for tours. It housed the World’s Longest Water Bar, indoor swimming pool, Polio pool, the water department and a spa for both men and women. Today, the Hall of Waters houses the city offices and the Hall of Waters Visitor Center and Cultural Museum, which offers tourist and visitor information along with area attraction, shopping and event brochures. This scenic street, once part of the Santa Fe Trail, runs along the bluff above the Missouri River. The district contains more than 25 homes built in the 1800s. Don’t miss the Missouri River overlook from the World War Memorial Steps.

Greek Revival Courthouse built in 1847 and occupied continuously, making it the oldest courthouse in Missouri still in use. The hole from a cannonball fired during the 1861 Battle of Lexington is still visible in the left-most column facade. A Memorial to Lafayette County Veterans is on the Courthouse square.

Lexington's downtown area is listed on the National Register and includes the 1847 Lafayette County Courthouse and many 19th century storefronts and structures. Shopkeepers, restaurants and offices on Main Street and Franklin Avenue still do business in the same buildings where the early citizens of Lexington worked and shopped. Many of the buildings now contain antique and gift shops, each one with its own personality. Visit the shops and enjoy the period renovation that showcases each building.

Housed in an 1846 Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the museum features exhibits on the Osage Indians, Pony Express, steamboats, Civil War, coal mining, and Wentworth Military Academy. There is a memorial to the victims of the Saluda steamboat disaster.

Established by an act of the Missouri General Assembly in 1849, Lexington's Machpelah Cemetery is one of Missouri’s oldest corporations in continuous existence. Among those buried here are victims of the 1852 Saluda steamboat explosion; one of the founders of the Pony Express; and Civil War soldiers killed in the 1861 Battle of Lexington. Dedicated in 1928 by County Judge Harry S Truman in honor of the brave women who helped settle the West. It's one of 12 monuments marking the National Old Trails Road, which runs from Maryland to California.

Route 224 has been designated as the Old Trails Road Scenic Byway because of its unique history, and its scenic, recreational, cultural and natural qualities. The picturesque drive from Lexington through Wellington and Waterloo to Napoleon runs alongside the Missouri River. Travelers will experience a roadway that has been traveled by American Indians, fur traders, trappers, explorers, westward pioneers, gold seekers, ox carts, covered wagons, Santa Fe Trail traders, Civil War troops, Jayhawkers, Bushwhackers, coal miners, farmers, early-day motorists and present-day tourists.

This ornate frame home was built in the late 1800s as a Methodist Church parsonage. It is located in the Old Neighborhoods National Historic District. A Victorian interior with elegant furnishings awaits you. There is a garden patio with a grill.  Relaxing on the front porch swing waving at passers-by is a tradition. Wood-burning fireplace. Guests enjoy complimentary drinks, snacks and a full breakfast.

Affiliated with Whiteman Air Force Base, this 18-hole course on 300 acres of rolling hills and wooded areas is open to the public. It is not unusual to see wildlife in and around the course. Four sets of tees give the course variety that can be enjoyed equally by the serious golfer looking for a real challenge or the weekend golfer looking for fun and relaxation. Open March-November. Closed Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday.

The memorial was built in 2002 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Saluda disaster - on April 19, 1852, the worst steamboat disaster on the Missouri River. The Saluda's boiler exploded, killing about 75 passengers and crew, many of them Latter Day Saints (Mormons) from Europe en route to Utah. Many were buried in Machpelah Cemetery. The Saluda Memorial honors the victims and heroes of the disaster. More information is available at the Lexington Historical Museum across the street from Heritage Park.
