Join us at The Mansion Theatre for two shows featuring one of country music's icons, George Jones. These shows are at 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 and Nov. 9 only.
There is no doubt that George Jones helped set the standard for modern country music. After earning his first Top Five hit with “Why Baby Why,” Jones went on to record a string of chart toppers, including “White Lightning,” “Tender Years,” “She Thinks I Still Care,” “The Window Up Above,” “The Race Is On,” and “Walk Through This World With Me.” In 1980, he recorded “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” which today is widely regarded as the greatest country song of all time. Jones’ performance of that song went on to win virtually every award in music including a Grammy Award, and CMA Single of the Year in 1980 and 1981.
Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992 and he received the 2002 Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush at a White House ceremony. The National Medal of Arts is the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence.
Join us at The Mansion Theatre for two nights with Johnny Mathis; his performances are at 8 p.m. on Nov. 16-17.
One of the last and most popular in a long line of traditional male vocalists who emerged before the rock-dominated 1960s, Johnny Mathis concentrated on romantic readings of jazz and pop standards for the ever-shrinking adult contemporary audience of the 1960s and '70s.
Though he debuted with a flurry of singles chart activity, Mathis later made it big in the album market, where a dozen of his LPs hit gold or platinum and more than 60 made the charts. While he concentrated on theme-oriented albums of show tunes and traditional favorites during the '60s, he began incorporating soft rock by the '70s and remained a popular concert attraction well into the '90s.
Mathis' hits include "It's Not for Me to Say" and his first No. 1, "Chances Are." He also topped the charts with "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late."
