The La Plata station is on the Chicago-Kansas City line. The Southwest Chief at La Plata offers service east to towards Chicago or west to Kansas City, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon and Los Angeles.

Enjoy a free, self-guided tour of an extensive collection of memorabilia related to Amtrak and the history of passenger railroading. Housed in an old boxcar, the exhibition contains a variety of posters, artifacts, and souvenirs. In a sister boxcar next door, you will see a custom-crafted Lionel model railroad layout depicting Amtrak trains at work; grab the throttle and make the trains come to life. The museum is located next to the Depot Inn Hotel. Tell the hotel staff you wish to tour the Exhibition of Amtrak History; they will be happy to open the museum for your convenience.

This reservoir is a good location for an outdoor getaway in Northeast Missouri. It offers fishing, camping and hiking opportunities. Electric and water hookups are available. For information, please call 660-332-7166. Fees are $12 for camp sites with hookups; $7 for primitive sites. People who bring their own boats will need to pay a fee, which is $25 for a year or $2 per day.

The La Plata Golf Course is among the most challenging 18-hole courses located in northeast Missouri. The course, which plays nearly 6,200 yards from the blue (championship) tees, features a newly remodeled clubhouse.

Free guided tours indentify more than 200 plant families, including many displayed throughout the community’s railroad-themed businesses and sites.

This lake was built by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1907. Since the 1920s it has been a swimming, fishing, and picnicking destination for La Plata and surrounding area. The lake is open from Memorial Day-Labor Day.

Silver Rails Gallery is one of the world's only stand-alone art galleries and museum spaces dedicated entirely to works of railroad-related art. All of the art shown gives each viewer a look at the railroads alive today. Some views take you on a trip to the past, get up-close and personal, and some show you a different perspective of what we still have. We also house the Memorial Library.
