The Cotton Ramble Bike Ride begins and ends at the Sikeston Depot Museum in downtown Sikeston. Riders travel along shaded, tree-lined streets with majestic homes constructed in the early 1900s. This event is not a race. It is designed to allow riders to choose their routes based on their own level of training.
Choose from 13-, 26-, 65- and 100-mile rides. The longer routes leave town, traveling along fields of cotton, soybeans and corn. On the 26- and 65-mile routes you can visit two working cotton gins, each offering free tours. All routes are well marked and include rest stops with refreshments and toilet facilities.
While downtown, enjoy the Harvest Festival and Antique Tractor Show in Legion Square (adjacent to the Depot). You're invited to enjoy downtown's galleries, antique and collectible stores, and boutique shopping.
Registration at the Depot Museum: Oct. 10, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.; Oct. 12, 7:30 a.m. Ride begins at 8:30 AM at the Red Caboose.
Join us October 4 at Peace Park in Columbia for the Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure®. The mid-Missouri race is part of the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
The Komen Race for the Cure is designed and implemented to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. The Komen Race for the Cure is an opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities.
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from the race stay in Mid-Missouri for local breast health screening, treatment and education and the other 25 percent going toward national research grants. Not a runner? Not a problem! You can participate by walking our 5K or 1 mile fun course or sleeping in for the cure.
All ages are welcome to participate in the 1-mile and 10k races which begin at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum. Also, festival-goers can enjoy artists' booths, live entertainment, food, and free children's activities on the museum grounds.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to break out of a real dungeon? What about a dungeon underneath a 178-year-old abandoned prison? What would it be like to stand in a place where convicts sat for years at a time without daylight, running water or contact with the outside world? If you’ve ever thought about any of that, chances are pretty good you’ve thought about how you would escape from that prison.
On September 6, Jefferson City Outdoors is going to give you that opportunity. The Prison Break Race is back!
Racers will emerge from the prison’s dungeon, sprint through Housing Unit 4 and set out on a 5+ mile course that will test every facet of their athleticism. Breaking out of prison isn’t easy, and this course won’t be either. Expect the unexpected – hilly terrain combined with a slew of obstacles will be featured at every turn before the conclusion. Must be 18 years or older.
Registration 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m., race 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Cost is $40 per person and includes t-shirt, mug shot photo and pizza slices.
